The Failure Hazard The spreader bolts on these ladder mechanisms can break while in use, causing the ladder structure to fail abruptly under weight. The manufacturer has already received 11 reports of broken bolts, including at least one incident resulting in severe neck, head, and back injuries.
How to Check Your Attic Ladder To check if your home has an affected unit, pull down the attic door and inspect the product label on the inside surface of the door panel. You will find the brand name and model number printed there. Recalled models fit ceiling heights ranging from 7’8″ to 12′ and come in frame sizes of 22.5″, 25.5″, or 30.0″ wide by 54″ or 60″ long.
Required Action Stop using the attic ladder immediately—do not climb it or load items into the attic until it is repaired.
